The glorious peaks of Nepal are calling out for climbers (first-timers and experienced) from all over the world. Come and get an everlasting taste of the magnificent Himalayas here in Nepal! 

The northern region of Nepal is the Himalayan region, home to numerous mountains including the highest in the world, Mt. Everest (8,848m). This region begins at an elevation of 3,000 meters. 

Climbers from all over the world are welcome to set on a journey full of adventures! 

Apart from your travel expenses, you are required to pay royalty fees for your climb. Climbing the popular peaks include expensive royalty fees. These fees also depend on the season of your travel. Spring and Autumn are more expensive than winters as spring and autumn are the peak seasons for outdoor activities in Nepal. However, there are some peaks that you can climb without paying any royalty fee. 

Below is a list of the royalty-free peaks you can climb.

Yala Peak Climbing
Towards the north of Kathmandu is a beautiful valley of Langtang resting below the great Langtang range. One of the peaks in this range is the Yala peak situated near the border of Tibet. The peak stands tall at a height of 5,732 meters. It is one of the most simple and non-technical peaks of the country. Thus, easy and suitable for all climbers. 

The Yala peak climbing journey offers great views of the serene Valley of Langtang and mountains such as Shishapangma, Langtang Lirung, and Dorje Lakpa. Your trip begins with a scenic drive to Syabrubensi where you start your journey on foot. You follow the path through Lama Hotel, Langtang village, Kyanjin Gompa to Yala Base Camp. 

The ascension is rather easy as you follow the winding path to the summit. After watching the breathtaking views from the summit, you make your way back down to the base camp. On the next day, you continue your journey back to Syabrubensi. 

Yala Peak climbing is a 14-day journey, including acclimatization stops at various locations. This trip can cost around $2,595 per person. 

Tharpu Chuli Peak Climbing
Along with the Annapurna ranges, Tharpu Chuli peak stands tall in the southern region. Tharpu Chuli, also known as the Tent peak is 5,663 meters in height. This climb is perceived as one of the most rewarding climbs as it provides stunning views of the Himalayas including Annapurna, Hiunchuli, and Dhaulagiri. 

You travel along the route of the Annapurna Sanctuary Trek which lets you experience the diverse flora, fauna, and culture of the Annapurna region. As you immerse yourself into the adventure of Tharpu Chuli, you will be walking long distances. This is a strenuous trip. Thus, you are required to be physically fit. 

Your trip begins with a drive to Nayapul from where the trek begins. You follow the route along Ghandruk, Chhomrong, Dobhan, Deurali, and Machhapuchhre Base Camp to Tharpu Chuli camp. You begin the summit at midnight, making your make way crossing small streams and glaciers. Summiting the peak takes almost 6 to 7 hours. There will be pre-fixed ropes to help you climb the peak. 

Atop, you enjoy blissful views of the Annapurna massifs. Tharpu Chuli peak climbing is a 17-day journey and can cost around $3,225 per person.

Mardi Himal Peak Climbing
Mardi Himal (5,553m) is yet another peak in the Annapurna region situated to the southwest of Mt. Machhapuchhre. It gets its name from its long rising ridge that is shaped like a triangle. You can view the peak right from Pokhara. The Mardi Himal Peak climbing trek takes you to one of the most unspoiled and untouched destinations of Nepal. The peak is well known to provide great views of the Himalayas, especially Machhapuchhre. 

This journey takes you to a region decorated with the greenery of bamboo and rhododendron forests. You get an opportunity to explore the rural villages and the rich cultural diversity of the region. Trekking for long hours through off-beaten trails makes this a challenging journey. 

The trip begins with a drive to Mardi Pul. You follow the route along Ghachowk, Dhiprang, Chichemle Kharka, and Khumai Danda to Mardi Himal Base Camp. You walk on thick ice and glacial sludge as you head for the summit. 

A cold breeze of air greets you at the summit! The Mardi Himal Peak climbing trek is a 19-day trip. This trek can cost around $2,865 per person. 

Pokalde Peak Climbing
Lying in the Khumbu region, the Pokalde peak is known as one of the most challenging and strenuous climbs in Nepal. The Pokalde peak is popular amongst mountaineers who love a bit of a challenge. This amazing journey lets you experience the magnificent mountains, natural flora, fauna, and cultural diversity of the Khumbu region. 

Experience the beauty of the Khumbu region as you trek along the trails of the Everest Base Camp Trek. You can view mountains such as Everest, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, and the stunning Kongma La Pass. 

The Pokalde Peak climbing trip begins with an adventurous flight to Lukla. The adventure begins with a thrilling flight. Trekking begins as you head to Phakding passing through the final scenes of greenery you will see during this trip. You follow the route along Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Pheriche, Gorakshep, and Lobuche to Pokalde Base Camp. 

The summit is difficult as you walk through rocky trails. The glorious view at the top awaits you. The scenery will take your breath away. You make your way back to base camp and Lukla the next day.

The Pokalde Peak climbing trek is an 18-day trip. This trek can cost around $2,745 per person. 

Chhukung Ri Climbing
Above the village of Chhukung, lies a rocky peak, Chhukung Ri. The peak lies in the Sagarmatha National park. The features of this peak are similar to that of Kala Patthar. At 5,550 meters, climbers often use this peak as an acclimatization spot during the Everest Base Camp Trek.  

In comparison to its neighboring high Himalayan peaks, this peak is small. Climbers don't require much experience to climb this peak. Thus, peak climbing in Chhukung Ri is suitable for almost all trekkers with good physical fitness. A journey to summit the Chhukung Ri also gives you an experience of the Khumbu region and its natural gifts. 

The trip begins with a thrilling flight to Lukla, from where you trek through the route passing Phakding, Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Dingboche, and Chhukung. You make your summit the next day and return to Chhukung village. 

The Chhukung Ri trek is a 14-day journey but can be extended if you wish to explore more of the Khumbu region. This trek can cost around $1,995 per person.

Macchermo Peak Climbing
Macchermo peak is one of the most attractive sought out peaks by climbers in Nepal. En route to Gokyo Valley, the peak is situated amidst the Mahalangur region. It is also considered as one of the ideal peaks to choose if you are planning to gain mountain climbing experience. Machhermo Peak (6,272m) trails through a portion of the Gokyo Valley Trek. The Macchermo base camp is set beautiful above the rocky meadows and moraine. 

The journey to Macchermo peak begins with a scenic flight to Lukla. You begin trekking through the route passing Phakding, Namche Bazaar, Dole, Gokyo, and Macchermo Base Camp. You reach the summit on the next day. A beautiful view awaits your arrival atop. You can view mountains like Amadablam, Lhotse Shar, Nuptse, and even Everest. 

The Macchermo peak climbing trek is a 17-21 days journey. This trek can cost around $3,500 per person. 

Extra information
1.    Climbing experience
Not all peak climbing requires you to be an expert or highly experienced climber. There is always a first time for everything. For those who do not have prior experience, various peaks are easy to climb whereas experienced climbers can take on harder challenges. Nevertheless, peak climbing does require you to be physically fit. 

2.    Best time
The best time for peak climbing is during spring or autumn. These seasons occur from March to May and September to November respectively. The weather is pleasant with clear skies, suitable for trekking with great views. It is not appropriate to go peak climbing in the winter season as the temperature is freezing and climbers are sure to have a very hard time. 

3.    Packing list and equipment required
The packing list for peak climbing remains the same as any conventional trekking packing list. However, there is additional equipment you will need to complete your climb. Here is a list of useful equipment to take for your climb:
